Silas Umber no sooner became the Undertaker of Lichport than he is called back to his clan's ancestral home. He is to become the living Undertaker that is needed to perform the Door Doom, the rite that allows his extended family to stay out of the underworld in the form of ghosts, but only so long as their judgment is enacted all the same. Silas becomes Janus, the Watcher of the Threshold, and now he is thrust in the midst of an ancient family feud.
